The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

DigitalOcean Holdings is viewed favorably because its developer- and SMB-focused cloud platform is benefiting from strong AI inference demand, which is lifting revenue, RPO, and larger customer commitments while enabling faster pricing pass-through than peers tied to long-dated contracts. The company’s 2Q26 revenue grew 29% y/y to $281M, ARR reached $1.125B, and AI customer ARR rose 212% y/y to $234M, underscoring that higher-value inference and managed services are becoming a bigger part of the mix. With $767M of cash, about $1.2B of total liquidity, and committed capacity rising to roughly 155MW, the business has both balance-sheet flexibility and a long runway to scale usage, software attach, and margins.

Bear case

DigitalOcean Holdings is facing a fragile growth-and-profitability mix because much of its recent momentum depends on AI infrastructure demand that may be less durable than expected, while customer concentration, graduation to hyperscalers, and limited RPO visibility leave revenue quality less predictable than peers. Although gross margin was 60% in FY25 and 55% in 2Q26, management still expects adjusted EBITDA margin of 38.5%-39.5% in FY26 as startup costs, GPU depreciation, lease expense, and $20-25M of capital investment per MW weigh on near-term free cash flow. The company’s approximately 155MW of committed capacity and reliance on third-party models expose it to utilization, pricing, and competitive risks if supply conditions normalize or hyperscalers intensify their push into inference workloads.
