The case for and against

Updated Jul 7, 2026

Bull case

Emerald Holding is expected to see growth in the future due to its strategic portfolio optimization, recent acquisitions, and potential consolidation in the fragmented trade show industry led by the company's new owner, Apollo. The company's strong performance and focus on high-end, luxury events also make it a valuable asset. However, with the stock currently trading near the take-out price of $5.03, it is difficult to recommend buying at this level and a Neutral rating is appropriate.

Bear case

Emerald Holding is facing stiff competition in the highly saturated B2B event organizing market, with its key revenue source coming from its Connections division. With former President of the Americas for RELX (fka Reed-Elsevier) now at the helm, Emerald may face pressure to increase profit margins, as RELX's exhibition sector makes up less than 15% of its total sales. Additionally, Emerald's exposure to the highly unpredictable live events industry during the COVID-19 pandemic may have a negative impact on its financials.
