The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

8x8 is supported by a stronger operating backdrop, with Q4 FY26 revenue of $185.2M and service revenue of $180.2M both topping guidance, while operating margin reached 10.7% and CFFO was $14.4M, marking 21 consecutive quarters of positive cash flow. Its outlook is anchored in gross profit dollars plus deleveraging, as management-driven growth in usage-based revenue, 67% growth in paid AI customers, a 9% attach rate on recurring revenue, and multi-product customers up 18% Y/Y point to early-stage adoption across the installed base. The company also benefits from a differentiated integrated UC/CC platform, with total debt down to $309.4M from the August 2022 peak of $548M and evidence of customer wins that validate demand for omnichannel, AI-ready workflows.

Bear case

8x8 is viewed negatively because its growth and margin path depends on a multi-year execution stretch in which non-GAAP gross margin is expected to slip to 60.2% in FY28 and then face another 370bp reset in FY29, leaving operating income roughly flat before FY30. Management’s ability to offset that pressure with expense control is unproven over three consecutive years, while usage revenue remains uncontracted, lower-visibility, and already guided to decelerate to 30–35% Y/Y in 2Q27 from about 63% in 1Q27. At the same time, fierce UCaaS competition, pricing pressure, and the risk of weak customer acquisition or churn threaten a business that still trades at just 0.7x EV/CY27e sales despite the uncertainty.
