The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

FTAI Infrastructure is positioned favorably because its rail, terminal, and port assets generate increasingly durable cash flows, while management is layering in accretive acquisitions and contracted expansions that improve visibility. The Port Arthur Terminal and DRU purchase for $255M at about a 5x forward EBITDA multiple, alongside the Long Ridge sale and debt reduction, should meaningfully delever the balance sheet and lower interest costs, supporting faster cash generation. Growth is also supported by synergies from Wheeling & Lake Erie, Tidewater, Jefferson, and Repauno, where contracted projects and higher utilization point to FY2026 EBITDA of $276M and pro forma FY2027 EBITDA near $380M.

Bear case

FTAI Infrastructure is burdened by a heavy debt load, with about $3.84B in consolidated debt as of 1Q26 and leverage near 7-8x pro forma EBITDA, while still not covering fixed charges from operating cash flow alone. The pending Long Ridge sale and asset monetization plan could help, but delays, refinancing risk, and high borrowing costs leave the balance sheet vulnerable, especially with the July 1, 2026 debt maturity and a 10.0% coupon on the Jefferson bonds. Fundamental earnings quality is also weak because several segments depend on volatile commodity flows, long-dated contracts, and capital-intensive projects like Repauno Phase 2, creating execution risk, delayed cash conversion, and limited dividend safety.
