The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Seacoast Banking is well positioned by a differentiated balance sheet that could support further net interest margin expansion, especially with a ~77.5% loan-to-deposit ratio and guidance for high-single-digit loan growth while many peers may already be near peak NIMs. Strong 1Q26 execution, including ahead-of-consensus NIM growth, robust deposit generation, and the resumption of buybacks of ~317K shares for about $10M, reinforces the quality of the franchise and management’s willingness to return capital opportunistically. The company’s organic deposit growth of 7% ex-brokered, a $1.045B loan pipeline, and expansion in high-growth markets such as central Florida, north Florida, and Atlanta support a favorable long-term growth outlook despite near-term paydowns.

Bear case

Seacoast Banking is viewed negatively because, despite elevated capital ratios of TCE at 9.24% and CET1 at about 11.7%, the thesis depends on repurchases and capital deployment that may not offset broader fundamental uncertainty. Its earnings outlook is tied to interest and fee generation from loans, cash, securities, and deposit services, but the company’s own disclosure of only 320,763 shares repurchased at $31.18/share early in the second qtr suggests buyback execution is still modest relative to the expected ~5M shares in 2026/7 combined. The outlook also assumes M&A is much less likely moving forward, implying fewer strategic catalysts and a valuation supported more by capital return than by stronger core operating momentum.
