The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Super Group (SGHC) is favored because it combines profitable growth with a debt-free balance sheet, consistently positive free cash flow, and a low valuation relative to global online gaming peers despite >20% EBITDA margins and a clear path to further margin expansion. Its strongest fundamental driver is Africa, which accounted for 45% of total revenue in 1H26 and has delivered 34% revenue growth in 1H26, supported by low customer acquisition costs, quick payback periods, and a scalable Betway brand that could lift Africa’s mix toward 60% by 2028. Additional upside comes from iGaming-led monetization, improving cost efficiency after the U.S. exit, and event-driven catalysts in 2027, while potential buybacks could make the company’s growing cash balance even more accretive to shareholders.

Bear case

Super Group (SGHC) is weighed down by concentrated geographic and regulatory exposure, with ~40% of revenue from Africa and meaningful operations across Europe where re-regulation, higher tax rates, and tighter advertising rules could pressure growth and margins. It also faces a highly competitive online gaming market with sophisticated rivals, which can force higher customer acquisition and technology reinvestment costs, while FX volatility across over a dozen jurisdictions adds another layer of earnings uncertainty. In addition, ~69% insider ownership can limit liquidity and amplify share-price volatility, and despite a constructive 2Q setup with sports betting revenue estimated at $149.6M and 2026 EBITDA of $836.7M, the business still appears vulnerable to cost pressure and regulatory headwinds.
