The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Take-Two Interactive is supported by a powerful franchise portfolio led by Grand Theft Auto, which has accounted for about 30% of sales for the past decade, alongside NBA 2K, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, and Civilization. The firm’s recent F1Q net bookings beat the high end of guidance, while NBA 2K delivered strong recurrent consumer spending, with up 7% Y/Y, a 15% increase in average DAUs, and a 45% jump in average games played per user. Its outlook is further strengthened by unprecedented GTA VI pre-orders, a broadened marketing reach through Netflix, and a business mix increasingly driven by in-game spending and mobile sales from Zynga.

Bear case

Take-Two Interactive is under pressure because its near-term setup relies heavily on GTA VI, while FY'27 guide is unchanged at $8.0B-$8.2B net bookings and F2Q'27 bookings are expected to fall 14.8%-17.4% y/y to $1.62B-$1.67B, below consensus. The company’s mix is also vulnerable, with more than three-fourths of sales tied to in-game spending and mobile now about half of revenue, leaving it exposed to backlash against over-monetization, annualized franchise fatigue, and intensifying mobile competition that can hurt both margins and top-line growth. Although 1QFY27 bookings of $1.386B and EPS of $0.35 beat estimates, operating margin still fell to 6.4% and any delay or disappointment around GTA VI, expected in November 2026, could force significant downward revisions to FY'27/FY'28 expectations.
