The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Comcast is attractive fundamentally because its valuation already reflects deep pessimism, with the stock down 21% YTD and trading near 5x '27 EV/EBITDA versus a three-year average around 6x, while buy-side ownership appears light. Its core connectivity franchise still reaches about 65 million U.S. homes and businesses, and recent evidence of improving broadband trends, record wireless adds, and better cost control suggests EBITDA and free cash flow can strengthen as promotional pressure eases. Additional upside comes from the NBCU/Sky spin, which could re-rate the media portfolio and sharpen the company’s strategic flexibility, especially given the first-quarterly Peacock profitability and broader content monetization momentum.

Bear case

Comcast is facing a deteriorating fundamental backdrop as Broadband net adds weaken against fiber, FWA, and low-priced competitive offers, forcing a bad choice between higher churn or lower ARPU, while broadband revenue fell 5.5% and ARPU declined 3.8%. The core cable business and C&P EBITDA are under pressure from elevated promotional intensity, restructuring costs, and management’s 2026 investment year, which makes the expected “modest” improvement in EBITDA look too optimistic and could keep broadband losses near 500K annually. NBCU and Sky add little offset because Parks EBITDA dropped 5% and theme parks appear softer than expected, so the NBCU spin-off and paused buybacks remove potential support while consolidated 2026/2027 OCF remains below consensus.
