The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Autoliv is viewed favorably because its dominant ~44% global market share in passive safety systems, plus leadership in airbags and seatbelts, creates a durable moat supported by regulatory-driven content growth and premium-vehicle mix gains. Despite a mixed Q2/26, sales reached $2.80B and EBIT was broadly in line at $270M, while management confirmed 2026 guidance even after higher raw material inflation, underscoring resilient execution and self-help margin potential. The company’s expanding Chinese OEM relationships, improving India growth, and expected 2027-2028E North American production recovery provide a credible path to sustained low-teen EPS growth and stronger free cash flow conversion.

Bear case

Autoliv is facing a weaker fundamental setup as downside risk to 2027 consensus revenue estimates, uneven regional gross margin performance, and heavier Q4 margin dependence create a less attractive risk/reward profile. Its earnings remain highly exposed to global vehicle production, customer call-off volatility, raw material swings, tariffs, and regional mix, while Americas and Europe continue to lag and leave growth more reliant on Asia. Although 2026 guidance was maintained, management lowered LVP growth to -2.5% y/y and signaled Q3 margins of 9.3% versus an implied Q4 margin of 15.3%, underscoring execution and back-end reliance concerns.
