The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Arcturus Therapeutics is attractive because its approved Kostaive vaccine validates the self-amplifying mRNA platform and de-risks the broader LUNAR delivery technology, potentially opening additional partnership and business-development opportunities. The company’s internal rare-disease programs also appear more compelling after early ARCT-810 data showed all participants benefited, with glutamine falling in every participant and some moving into the normal range while ammonia stayed within normal limits, supporting biological activity despite prior confounders. In cystic fibrosis, ARCT-032’s Phase 3 go/no-go decision guided for Q4 2026, expanded enrollment across the U.S., Israel, and Turkey, and the 12-week study design should provide substantially more meaningful exposure than the prior 4-week study.

Bear case

Arcturus Therapeutics is facing a negative fundamental setup because its core opportunity in OTCD remains highly uncertain despite clinical progress, with ARCT-810 still carrying only a 35% PoS and a 2028 market entry assumption, while competition from gene-agnostic UCD approaches could pressure its long-term addressable market. The company’s own disclosures highlight greater-than-expected operating expenses and cash burn, raising the risk of equity issuances at less attractive valuations, especially given the small revenue base and the need for strong pricing power in rare diseases. Even where efficacy signals are encouraging, development delays, regulatory uncertainty, safety concerns, and the possibility that clinical results fail to translate from preclinical data all support a cautious outlook.
