The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Arcutis Biotherapeutics is compelling because it is building a leading branded topical dermatology franchise around ZORYVE, a potent PDE4 inhibitor with differentiated 0.3% cream and foam formulations that already address plaque psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis. Its commercial execution has been strong, with product net sales rising from $29M in 2023 to $167M in 2024 and $372M in 2025, while 2Q26 ZORYVE sales of $129.9M rose 59% year over year and helped support guidance of $525M–$540M for 2026. The outlook is further strengthened by limited direct competition in seborrheic dermatitis, positioning advantages versus Opzelura in atopic dermatitis, and additional upside from pediatric expansion, vitiligo, HS, and ARQ-234 pipeline readouts.

Bear case

Arcutis Biotherapeutics is viewed negatively because its Zoryve growth outlook relies on sustaining share gains in a highly competitive topical market, where generic products and recently approved Vtama can limit uptake and pressure net sales through higher gross-to-net discounts. The company also faces commercialization friction from physician demand, prior authorization-heavy payer access, and third-party dependence on Interquim for supply and manufacturing, which raises execution and supply-chain risk. On the financial side, rising operating expenses tied to commercialization and pipeline development suggest a need for additional capital, while slower-than-expected uptake, worse-than-expected GTN, and manufacturing issues could materially weaken the investment case.
