The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Avalo Therapeutics is attractive because abdakibart has generated positive Phase II LOTUS data in hidradenitis suppurativa, with about 42.5% to 45.2% HiSCR-75 and placebo-adjusted benefit near 17% to 19.4%, supporting the view that its anti-IL-1β biology is clinically de-risked. The company also has roughly $472 million in cash and investments as of May 31, which is expected to fund operations into 2029 and allows it to advance the registrational Phase III program without near-term financing pressure. Beyond abdakibart, the pipeline adds optionality through AVTX-010 and other assets, while the planned 1H27 Phase III initiation and 2H26 regulatory and readthrough catalysts provide a clear path to value creation.

Bear case

Avalo Therapeutics is a clinical-stage biotech with limited near-term revenue visibility, and its valuation remains highly dependent on abdakibart’s success despite meaningful execution risk across the pipeline. The 2Q26 financing lifted cash, cash equivalents, and investments to $472.2M from $82.0M and is expected to fund operations into 2029, but OpEx rose 50.8% Q/Q to $31.5M and net loss widened 85.2% Q/Q to $36.4M, underscoring continued cash burn. The bearish view is driven by the possibility of delays in clinical development, negative safety or efficacy readthrough versus competitor benchmarks, failure to achieve approval, slower commercial uptake, and long-term equity dilution risk.
