The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Brunswick is positioned for durable fundamental upside because its updated 2030 framework does not depend on a major marine-market rebound, with $7.0-$8.0B of revenue, 10%-13% operating margins, $8-$12 of EPS and $550M+ of annual FCF driven mainly by pricing, mix, share gains and operating leverage. The latest quarter reinforced that thesis, as 1Q26 revenue rose 12.8% to $1.38B, adjusted EPS beat expectations at $0.70, and the company lifted FY26 guidance to $5.65B-$5.80B of revenue and $4.00-$4.50 of adjusted EPS despite tariff and geopolitical pressures. Segment momentum is broad, with Propulsion up 17.3%, Navico margins expanding to 8.2%, P&A margins at 16.7%, and Boat demand supported by core brands and Freedom Boat Club’s 20% trip growth.

Bear case

Brunswick is facing a fundamentally mixed setup where 2Q26 outperformance was aided by pricing, higher production absorption, and a net IEEPA benefit, masking underlying pressure from tariffs, material and labor inflation, and a 110bp rise in SG&A to 16.1%. Although revenue reached $1.56B and adjusted EPS was $1.56, the company’s FY26 assumptions still imply a flattish U.S. retail boat market and continued $40M tariff impact, which limits confidence in durable organic growth. Its exposure to intense competition, cyclical seasonality, and inventory missteps across propulsion, boats, and P&A makes margins and cash flow vulnerable once boating participation or consumer demand normalizes.
