The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

BayCom is attractive because its new management team is prioritizing faster balance-sheet growth through a more concerted sales effort and talent additions, which could improve both loan production and franchise value over time. The company also showed encouraging 1Q26 execution, with EPS of $0.75 versus $0.63 estimated, PPNR/share of $0.94, NII of $25.2M, and NIM expansion to 4.11%, supported by stronger deposit gathering and disciplined funding costs. Although the loan/deposit ratio of 89% and rising deposit competition may modestly limit the pace of acceleration, strong capital ratios, including TCE of 11.6% and CET1 of 14.8%, leave room for organic growth and selective M&A.

Bear case

BayCom is viewed negatively because its valuation already appears fair relative to peers, leaving little margin for upside even as estimates remain unchanged at $2.70 for 2026E and $2.85 for 2027E. Its projected 2027E ROA of 1.13% trails the peer median 1.35%, signaling weaker profitability generation than comparable banks and limiting near-term share appreciation. Additional downside comes from risks tied to asset-quality deterioration, competitive pressure on loan and deposit pricing that could compress net interest margin, and potential M&A delays that would leave excess capital dragging on returns.
