The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Blackstone is viewed positively because its scale leadership across private equity, real estate, credit and insurance, and other alternatives supports durable fee growth, while $1.346 trillion in total AUM and $961.6 billion in fee-earning AUM provide a powerful base for compounding earnings. The outlook is further strengthened by improving fundamentals in 4Q26 and into '27, including accelerating base management fees, a robust realization pipeline, easing BCRED redemptions, and potential FRE margin expansion as the platform scales. Its diversified fundraising engine and exposure to retail democratization, real assets, and AI-linked infrastructure also enhance long-term growth visibility and reduce reliance on any single market cycle.

Bear case

Blackstone is facing a negative near-term outlook because 2Q management fees missed consensus again, while management also pointed to a relatively soft 3Q realization backdrop, leaving the stock exposed to negative estimate revisions even as long-term earnings power builds. Credit and real estate are the main pressure points, with those management fees declining sequentially, BCRED seeing elevated redemptions, and a large amount of dry powder still not earning fees until deployed, while 1H26 fee growth should remain subdued before improving in 2H26 as fee holidays roll off. The company also remains sensitive to macro risks such as higher rates, wider credit spreads, and geopolitical volatility, which could slow capital formation, deployment, and monetization across its $961.6 billion of fee-earning AUM and $1.346 trillion of total AUM.
