The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Cava Group is positioned favorably because 2Q showed durable demand and operational leverage, with same-store sales up 9.0% on 5.3% traffic growth and adjusted EBITDA rising 30% year-over-year to $55m. The company’s category leadership in a nascent fast-casual segment, combined with strong new unit productivity and 17 net openings in 2Q, supports the view that its 75-77 net openings expected in 2026 can compound growth effectively. Its centralized sauce and dip production, ongoing menu innovation such as salmon and shrimp, and reinvestment in labor and customer experience reinforce brand momentum while leaving significant whitespace for expansion.

Bear case

Cava Group is negatively positioned because it operates in a crowded, promotion-heavy fast-casual market against much larger, better-capitalized rivals with stronger national brands, while also facing ongoing pressure from real estate scarcity, labor competition, and volatile protein and wage costs. Its customer base is relatively vulnerable, as Millennials and Gen Z account for more than half of transactions, and its heavy geographic concentration in Texas, California, and the DMV increases exposure to regional shocks, weather, and labor inflation. Although 2025 sales are about $1.2 billion across 439 company-owned U.S. units, its short operating history since 2011, recent food-safety-related sales disruption, and EBITDA guidance trimmed to $191 million underscore execution risk as it pushes toward 1,000 units by 2032.
