The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Centuri Holdings is viewed favorably because its revenue visibility is strengthening into 2027, with management expecting about $3.6-3.7bn of coverage exiting 2026 and bookings tracking toward $4.4-4.6bn, while the latest $475mn award added meaningful new project and MSA content. The core bullish case centers on U.S. Gas inflecting from a winter drag to a margin contributor, with 1Q27 revenue potentially near $380mn and $4-5mn of gross profit versus a loss in 1Q26, supported by better labor coverage, earlier planning, and productivity gains. That improving operating cadence, along with expected FY26 free cash flow above $75mn, leverage near 2x by YE26, and higher gross profit assumptions in electric, suggests the company can expand margins without taking on riskier work.

Bear case

Centuri Holdings is facing a skeptical outlook because reported flow-through has been diluted by higher rental and leasing costs, with about $22 million of incremental expense in 2Q and $37 million in 1H, plus a $12 million FY26 fuel headwind and rising mileage activity. Management is also leaning on a higher-cost fleet mix in 2026 versus its long-term 50/50 framework, while G&A still includes roughly $7 million of new stock compensation and $10 million of strategic or transaction-related costs, limiting near-term margin clarity. Although 1Q revenue grew 31.5% to about $723 million and Adj. EBITDA rose 34.4% to $32.5 million, the investment case still depends on proving backlog quality, labor availability, and conversion into stronger 2027 earnings and free cash flow.
