The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Ducommun is positioned for a favorable rerating because its Tier 1 role in aerospace and defense, combined with a roughly 60/40 Defense/Commercial Aerospace mix, supports durable demand and better visibility. Its margin profile is improving as Vision 2032 targets 600 bps of expansion after Vision 2027 added 470 bps, while Engineered Products grew to about 25% of revenue from 9% in 2017 and should lift mix and profitability. Strong missile growth, rising commercial aerospace production, and M&A up to $500M create multiple organic and inorganic growth levers, reinforced by 2Q26 revenue growth of 12%, 28% gross margins, and record backlog.

Bear case

Ducommun is viewed negatively because its revenue is highly concentrated, with BA and RTX representing 13% and 18% of 2025 revenue and the top ten customers contributing 61%, leaving results exposed to program-specific disruptions. Boeing’s ongoing FAA quality-control scrutiny and the pace of the 737 MAX production ramp, along with defense funding uncertainty, outsourcing trends, and commercial aerospace inventory work-downs, create material visibility risk across both segments. Although long-term debt fell to $276M by July 2026 after the November 2025 refinancing, the disclosed material weakness, restatement-related risk factors, and $5M executive-comp clawback underscore governance concerns that can pressure valuation.
