The case for and against

Updated Sep 5, 2026

Bull case

Digimarc is driving market adoption of its innovative product digitization and digital watermarking technology, with a narrowed focus primarily on their gift card solution for large retailers. The recent delay in implementing their technology by a scanner vendor has pushed the gift card opportunity out further, but the company still expects ARR acceleration in FY26. With a lower cash burn and potential regulatory tailwinds for plastics recycling, Digimarc has the potential for strong growth and a significant market share position in the years to come.

Bear case

Digimarc is facing challenges with its ARR growth, causing its shareholder value to fall short of projections in our bear case. While there may be some relief in the short term due to a narrowed focus on gift cards, we believe the company's ARR and FCF must significantly improve to see long-term success. Additionally, industry-wide multiple compression has led us to lower our price target to $10, but we believe Digimarc is better positioned with a high-value focus. Their recent earnings report showed an increase in subscription revenues and positive FCF, but non-GAAP operating expenses were higher than expected. Despite a potential bull case with outperformance in ecosystem products, Digimarc must overcome its current challenges to see sustainable growth in the long run.
