The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Enerflex is attractive because it is converting strong bookings momentum into visible growth, with its power generation backlog now at 1.75GW after two large-scale data center awards and a 1GW+ contract that supports a 2.5x book-to-bill in Engineered Systems. Its modular, capital-efficient model is especially compelling because milestone payments arrive ahead of costs, while the 1.75GW backlog implies about $1.9B in revenue and $366MM in gross margin, comfortably above the $100MM facility investment. The outlook is further strengthened by recurring, contracted cash flow from Energy Infrastructure and Services, which together provide about 65% of gross margin, alongside expected margin expansion and improving free cash flow as backlog converts.

Bear case

Enerflex is viewed negatively because its 2027E EBITDA assumptions already embed a 10% decline to $558MM, $530MM, and $499MM in the downside cases, driven by weaker revenue visibility and a lack of additional contract wins. The company also faces intensifying competition in the contract compression market, while its North America-heavy revenue base remains exposed to cyclical E&P capital spending and broader industry conditions. Additional pressure comes from execution and credit risk, foreign exchange volatility, and legal uncertainty tied to remaining receivables from its former cryogenic project in Kurdistan.
