The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Enova International is attractive because management reaffirmed 3Q guidance for 25% revenue growth and 30% EPS growth, with FY26 guidance of 20%-25% revenue growth and 30%-35% EPS growth, underscoring durable momentum even after the Grasshopper transaction was terminated. The company also expects to accelerate share repurchases over the remainder of the year, supported by about $349M of remaining authorization and $218M of repurchase capacity under debt covenants, which should further enhance per-share earnings power. Its appeal is reinforced by a solidly profitable, diversified consumer and small business lending platform that has delivered 20%+ top-line growth, strong operating leverage, and the ability to toggle underwriting to optimize returns.

Bear case

Enova International is under pressure from a difficult mix of regulatory, credit, and funding risks that can directly impair growth and profitability. The withdrawal of its Grasshopper Bank acquisition after regulatory applications stalled, combined with an existing CFPB consent order and unclear standards for non-traditional lenders, underscores meaningful policy and compliance uncertainty. Its unsecured, balance-sheet lending model also leaves earnings exposed to charge-offs in a weaker lending cycle, while rising competition and interest-rate sensitivity can squeeze net interest margin, pricing power, and access to capital.
