The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Equinix is well positioned because its cloud- and carrier-neutral data center model creates high switching costs, strengthens customer retention, and supports recurring revenue from physical space, interconnection, and managed services. Demand is being reinforced by AI, with 8 of the top 10 AI model providers and 4 of the top 5 neoclouds expanding on the platform, while 1Q26 produced record annualized gross bookings of $378 million, MRR per cabinet of $2,524, and MRR churn of just 1.7%. Management’s raised 2026 outlook for revenue of $10.14 billion to $10.24 billion, adjusted EBITDA of $5.16 billion to $5.24 billion, and roughly 15% cabinet-equivalent capacity growth from 2025 to 2028 further supports a constructive view on the stock.

Bear case

Equinix is exposed to structural pressure from its dependence on third parties, governments, and global suppliers for reliable power, making each new IBX facility vulnerable to outages, shortages, capacity constraints, and weaker expansion economics. Its broad footprint across 270 properties in 77 metropolitan areas and 36 countries does not eliminate the risk that EU data centers could be harmed if Russia further curtails gas exports, while rising interest rates and refinancing costs can weigh on a highly capital-intensive model. In addition, escalating cyber threats and the need for continual security investment, combined with macro weakness that may reduce enterprise technology spending and environmental regulation changes affecting power supply, create multiple downside channels for earnings and resilience.
