The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Element Solutions is supported by durable Electronics momentum, where strong demand in data centers, high-end smartphones, EV power electronics, and nascent AI/ML applications drove a 1Q EBITDA beat to $162.3M and raised 2026 EBITDA guidance to $665M-$685M. The company is also investing incremental capex to expand manufacturing capacity and accelerate Kuprion-related projects, which should help it capture accelerating customer demand and sustain double-digit organic growth across subsegments. With stronger Electronics earnings more than offsetting softer Industrial and Specialty assumptions, management’s shift toward organic growth and customer value supports a long-term earnings algorithm that appears underappreciated.

Bear case

Element Solutions is facing a weaker fundamental setup as industrial surface treatment growth was flat in 1Q, with softness in North American auto and a weakening macro backdrop in Europe weighing on the industrial outlook for the remainder of the year. While the offshore energy business has improving leading indicators and could support accelerating volumes, the company still faces meaningful demand and execution risk if key electronics end markets such as smartphone volumes, auto builds, and EV penetration slow or supply chains are disrupted. Taken together with high leverage concerns in the broader set of cited risks and pressure from competition, labor costs, and customer consolidation, the stock merits a negative outlook.
