The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

EVgo is well positioned for long-term growth because its network is expanding through high-profile partnerships with Tesla and Brixmor, which can materially broaden site access and more than double its addressable market. Its core operating metrics remain solid, with 2Q26 network throughput of 99 GWh, about 20% utilization, 5,380 stalls in operation, and more than 1.8M customer accounts, suggesting continued scale and meaningful demand. The bullish view also rests on improving economics from maturing stalls, potential operating leverage, strong exposure to EV adoption and decarbonization, and diversified upside from fleet charging, PlugShare, and regulatory credit revenue.

Bear case

EVgo is facing a fundamentally challenging setup because revenue growth is still heavily dependent on capital-intensive stall additions and government-linked credits, yet 2Q26 showed only $82.6M of revenue, 8.9% GAAP gross margin, and about $(10.6)M of adjusted EBITDA. Management cut FY26 guidance to $400M-$430M revenue and ($25M)-($5M) adjusted EBITDA, while also lowering stall deployment plans, signaling weaker EV demand and slower operating leverage than expected. Although liquidity improved to $835M and the Tesla partnership may expand reach, the business still burned about $40.3M of free cash flow in 2Q26, leaving execution, funding, and dilution risks elevated.
