The case for and against

Updated Oct 7, 2026

Bull case

Vertical Aerospace is supported by a meaningful technical and financing inflection point after completing a piloted two-way transition flight with the VX4, a feat that validates the core eVTOL use case and was achieved under UK CAA Design Organisation Approval oversight, adding credibility to its certification path. Management says roughly 90% of parts are already in place with suppliers, CDR is targeted for late summer, and the company’s ~1,500-aircraft backlog could begin converting into firm orders and pre-delivery payments as certification advances toward 2028. The recently announced financing package, including up to $50M of new Mudrick notes, up to $250M of Yorkville preferred equity, and a $500M equity line, reduces near-term funding pressure and improves flexibility to execute through the next milestones.

Bear case

Vertical Aerospace is negatively viewed because its business faces multiple execution and financing risks, including inflation, supply-chain shortages, and higher labor and battery costs that could pressure materials purchasing and product deliveries. The company also faces significant delays in flight testing and regulatory certification, which can slow commercialization while forcing substantial additional capital needs to complete development and ramp production, potentially diluting investors at current market valuations. Beyond that, competitive eVTOL entrants, possible order cancellations, vertiport regulatory hurdles, and exposure to lithium-ion, semiconductor, and geopolitical disruptions make achieving target gross and EBITDA margins especially difficult.
