The case for and against

Updated Oct 3, 2026

Bull case

FedEx is positioned favorably because its core Federal Express segment now represents more than 95% of revenue after the June 2026 FedEx Freight spinoff, sharpening exposure to higher-return express and package delivery operations. The company’s expected CY26 revenue of about $91B, operating income of $5.8B, and adjusted EPS of $17.44 reflect a business that still benefits from ongoing B2B demand, while the integration of its Ground and Express networks should improve efficiency and margins in FY26 and beyond. With aircraft fleet renewal mostly complete, lower capital spending should support stronger free cash flow and ROIC, and its global reach, including TNT Express in Europe and FedEx Logistics, reinforces a durable competitive position.

Bear case

FedEx is facing a more concentrated and less diversified earnings profile after the June 2026 FedEx Freight spinoff, with Federal Express now representing more than 95% of revenue, which increases sensitivity to any slowdown in core package demand. Its operations are exposed to more than 220 countries and about 99% of global GDP, so recession risk, trade disputes, geopolitics, FX swings, and inflation could quickly pressure volumes and margins, while fuel costs already represented 5.5% of operating expenses in CY26, or about $5.0 billion. Execution risk is also elevated because the Network 2.0, DRIVE, and One FedEx initiatives must deliver savings and service improvements while labor, cybersecurity, weather, and regulatory risks continue to threaten profitability.
