The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Flutter Entertainment is well positioned by its leading U.S. FanDuel franchise and broad global scale, with top digital revenue share in major markets and 15.9 million average monthly users across more than 100 countries as of Dec. 31, 2025. New York data underscores the strength of the brand, as FanDuel’s handle rose about 26% YoY across the first three weeks of the NFL season and its share of state handle climbed to roughly 38%, despite a softer statewide hold tied to customer-friendly results. The outlook is further supported by management’s heavier promotional investment, expanding loyalty tools, predictive betting products, and a cost program targeting more than $300mn of savings by 2027 plus an additional $500mn by 2029, which should help convert market-share gains into earnings power.

Bear case

Flutter Entertainment is facing a negative setup because its U.S. sports betting economics are being pressured by outcome-driven hold compression, elevated promotional intensity, and a likely structural reset in FanDuel’s share that could force a sustained step-up in spending. Even though FanDuel is still gaining users and handle, revised views point to weaker profitability, with U.S. sportsbook revenue cut to $1.43bn and U.S. adjusted EBITDA to -$4mn as the Brazil ban removes about $70mn of 2026 revenue and $20mn of EBITDA while growth expectations are trimmed. Broader risks compound the outlook, including prediction markets eroding pricing power, rising gaming taxes, and regulatory bans that can impair margins and delay deleveraging and buybacks.
