The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

Flywire is viewed favorably because its payments platform, proprietary network, and vertical software solve real friction in education, healthcare, and travel, enabling customer consolidation and strong retention. The company’s diversification beyond traditional Big 4 education markets, with non-Big-4 education growing more than 40% y/y and travel plus healthcare adding resilience, reduces reliance on any single macro trend while supporting durable revenue growth. Financially, 1Q26 revenue less ancillary services grew 37.2% FXN and adjusted EBITDA margins expanded 452bps y/y, while FY27 estimates were raised to $877M revenue less ancillary services and $220M adjusted EBITDA.

Bear case

Flywire is viewed negatively because its core Education vertical faces weakening demand, with early-season U.K. visa trends tracking about -30% YTD through June versus a flat assumption, while downside valuation work already assumes only $183M of CY27E adjusted EBITDA, 15% below the base estimate. The company has also historically generated net losses from operations, making it uncertain that recent revenue growth can translate into durable profitability if volume scaling slows. In addition, macroeconomic, regulatory, compliance, and competitive pressures, including pricing and technological change, could further strain its highly regulated and rapidly evolving verticals.
