The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Fox is well positioned because its earnings are increasingly driven by scarce live sports and news, with Fox News ranking #1 in summer ratings, record World Cup Finals viewership, and NFL-related audience strength supporting advertising demand. Its model also benefits from resilient affiliate revenue and improving free cash flow, with F1Q27 Cable Networks EBITDA guided to $806mm, total company EBITDA to $1.36bn, and FY27 free cash flow raised to $3.1bn as World Cup working capital headwinds reverse. The company’s ad-supported Tubi growth, Fox One momentum, and midterm political cycle create additional catalysts, while the Murdoch family’s control and disciplined capital allocation support strategic execution and shareholder alignment.

Bear case

Fox is pressured by its heavy dependence on live news and sports tied to the shrinking pay-TV bundle, leaving cable networks exposed to cord-cutting, weaker subscriber fees, and potential channel shutdowns if viewership falls. Its post-Disney profile offers limited organic growth because the business no longer creates entertainment content, and management itself has described only modest F27 growth of about 1.7% revenue, 2.5% Adj OIBDA, and 2.5% FCF above F25. Even after the strong World Cup-driven F4Q26, advertising remains vulnerable to recession, shifting budgets toward experiences, and intensifying competition for a smaller ad market, while the dual-class structure concentrates voting power and limits governance flexibility.
