The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

  • Glacier Bancorp is supported by a strong 1Q operating print, with core EPS of $0.69 to $0.70 beating estimates, NIM expanding 22 bp to 3.80% for the 9th consecutive quarter, and credit staying pristine with NPAs/TA at 25 bp.
  • Its balance sheet also showed healthy momentum, as loans rose 2.0% to 2.1% LQA and deposits climbed 2.5% LQA, while newer AZ/TX markets grew more than 7% and core deposit mix improved.
  • The outlook is further reinforced by management’s low- to mid-single digit loan-growth guidance for 2026, a 6.75% 1Q origination yield, and disciplined expense control that supports a 54% to 55% efficiency target.

Bear case

Glacier Bancorp is facing a fundamentally cautious outlook because its earnings are highly exposed to banking industry risks, including credit deterioration, interest rate volatility, regulation, competition, and real estate weakness across its Western U.S. footprint. Its loan growth thesis is also fragile, since estimates assumed normalization in the back half of 2021 and tepid economic conditions could leave growth below expectations, limiting revenue expansion. In addition, the company’s acquisition-heavy strategy and decentralized local decision-making model increase integration, dilution, regulatory, and execution risk, while a significant regional downturn or severe credit deterioration could pressure asset quality and profitability.
