The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

GCM Grosvenor is attractive because it is delivering solid operating momentum, with 2Q26 fundraising of $2.3B up from $1.5B in 1Q26, adjusted EPS of $0.19 above expectations, and FRE margin of 45%, showing healthy fee generation and expense discipline. Its outlook is further strengthened by management’s confidence in 2H26 fundraising exceeding 1H26, an ARS pipeline described as the strongest in at least 10 years, and recurring wealth-channel and private markets growth supported by scaling AUM and operating leverage. The stock also has meaningful hidden upside from more than $1B of unrealized carried interest, a $150M SpaceX stake valued at about $3.5B, and long-term targets of over $280M in FRE and more than $1.20 in adjusted net income per share by 2028.

Bear case

GCM Grosvenor is facing a cautious setup because management’s assumption of wealth contribution appears limited, and the robust $500M in gross sales in 1Q26 may prove difficult to sustain at the same pace through ’28E. The stock’s fundamentals are pressured by multiple macro risks, including capital market declines, higher or lower interest rates, widening credit spreads, delayed LP allocations, and a shifting competitive landscape, all of which can slow asset gathering, deployment, and monetization. Downside also stems from the possibility of slower than modeled Private Markets organic growth, weaker specialized/custom NNA growth, fee degradation in Private Markets, and a steeper-than-expected AOLR in Absolute Return Strategies.
