The case for and against

Updated Oct 16, 2026

Bull case

GE Aerospace is attractive because its near-80,000-engine installed base creates a long-duration, high-margin services annuity, and services now account for roughly 70% of revenue with CFM56 alone estimated at about 20% of revenue and 40% of EBIT. Its 2Q26 performance showed that this model is still accelerating, with adjusted revenue up 24% year over year, EBIT of $2.75B at a 21.7% margin, and free cash flow of $3.0B, while management lifted 2026 guidance to $10.65B of adjusted EBIT and $9.05B of FCF at the midpoint. The bullish case is further supported by strong backlog and demand visibility, improving supply-chain and turnaround times, durability-kit adoption, and the expectation that LEAP and CFM56 work scopes will sustain profitable aftermarket growth.

Bear case

GE Aerospace is exposed to a vulnerable aftermarket cycle, where slower airline retirements and weaker travel demand could curb recurring services growth just as investors expect the engine mix to normalize. Supply-chain bottlenecks remain a major fundamental risk, with narrowbody maintenance turnaround times still around 95 days versus a 70-day target and widebody shops near 130 days versus 90, leaving LEAP profitability and delivery cadence susceptible to delay. Even with 2028E FCF of about $8.9B in the downside case, a slower economic recovery, higher costs, and emerging-market exposure could pressure margins and keep sentiment fragile.
