The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Honeywell Intl is well positioned for outperformance because the standalone company is already showing cleaner execution, with all three segments beating operationally in 2Q26, organic orders up 16%, and management raising full-year organic growth, margin, and EPS guidance despite a -$0.13 divestiture headwind. Its outlook is supported by a higher-quality mix of recurring revenue from its installed base, where services and software are expected to expand beyond ~40% of sales toward 45%, while Forge now connects 324,000 sites and 6.4 million assets. The raised 2026 framework, including 4%-6% 2H26 organic growth, ~20.1%-20.5% segment margins, and $1.8-$2.1 billion of free cash flow, reinforces confidence in durable earnings and cash generation.

Bear case

Honeywell Intl is viewed negatively because its 2Q26 adjusted cash EPS of $2.26 missed the $2.35-$2.45 guidance range and the company’s results remain tied to cyclical end markets like commercial aerospace, oil & gas, and general industrial activity. Although organic sales rose 4.0% year over year and the firm benefits from a large installed base and recurring aftermarket revenue, the analysis highlights that a broad-based macro slowdown, weaker emerging markets, or currency pressure could quickly overwhelm that stability. With shares still trading at 19.3x 2027 EPS and only modestly discounted on EV/EBITDA, the downside risk from slower growth, margin pressure, and execution missteps appears more compelling than the upside.
