The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Iovance Biotherapeutics is supported by a compelling combination of commercial traction and pipeline optionality, led by strong U.S. demand for AMTAGVI and Proleukin that pushed 2Q26 total revenue to about $99.3 million, up roughly 66% year over year and above expectations. Management also raised FY26 total revenue guidance to $410 million-$420 million, while expanding the authorized treatment center network to about 100 sites and targeting at least 110 by year-end, which should improve patient access and utilization. Beyond melanoma, near-complete NSCLC enrollment, SARATOGA in sarcoma, and frontline melanoma data expected at ESMO'26 create multiple catalysts, while gross margin expansion to 56% reflects improving economics from in-house manufacturing and scale.

Bear case

Iovance Biotherapeutics is viewed negatively because its value depends heavily on high-risk clinical success, yet its autologous TIL assets may still fail to show sufficient efficacy or superiority against established metastatic melanoma therapies and emerging CAR-T competition. The company also faces substantial regulatory uncertainty, since U.S. and foreign approvals are required and any failure or delay would materially hurt commercialization prospects and investor sentiment. Despite a strong cash position, it continues to spend heavily on R&D and may need additional capital from equity or non-dilutive sources, while one bear case cited lifileucel’s weak uptake in early 2026 and only a 10% probability of commercial success.
