The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

ITT is positioned for durable outperformance because robust orders, record backlog, and broad-based end-market strength support an upward bias to 2026 guidance while management continues to capture share and price across its portfolio. Execution has been best-in-class, with 2Q26 organic sales up 21% in Flow Technologies and 17% in Connect and Control Technologies, plus a 1.4x book/bill in CCT and improving margins helped by pricing and share gains. The SPX FLOW acquisition adds scale and synergy potential, while 2Q26 free cash flow of $162M, cash of $591M, and net leverage of 2.5x reinforce the view that ITT can keep reducing debt and compound earnings.

Bear case

ITT is facing a difficult fundamental setup because incremental tariffs, raw material inflation, and FX pressure could compress margins while demand destruction and pricing pressure weigh on profitability, especially in IP and CCT. Its cyclical exposure across auto, industrial, and oil-and-gas end markets leaves it vulnerable to short-cycle destocking, auto production peaks, and persisting macro weakness that could delay a recovery. The company also needs to sustain strong productivity gains and successful M&A execution despite COVID-19-related disruptions across MT, IP, and CCT, making earnings durability less certain.
