The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Jazz Pharmaceuticals is viewed positively because its revenue base is increasingly diversified beyond Xyrem, with new products driving about 65% of sales in 2022 and total sales projected to rise from $2.4B in 2020 to an estimated $4.3B in 2026, supported by reiterated FY26 revenue guidance of $4.25B-$4.5B. Strong Q1 revenue of $1.069B, ahead of the $983.2MM consensus, showed broad commercial momentum from Xywav, Epidiolex, Zepzelca, and Modeyso, while the sodium oxybate franchise and oncology business both continue to demonstrate resilient demand. The outlook is further strengthened by Ziihera’s expanding HER2+ opportunity, with management raising peak revenue potential to $3B-$5B after the 1L HER2+ GEA approval, alongside additional upside from pipeline and business development efforts.

Bear case

Jazz Pharmaceuticals is vulnerable to a deteriorating fundamental backdrop because its investment case depends heavily on a few key franchises, especially Xyrem, whose cash flow could erode as generics enter and patents fail to block competition. Regulatory and clinical uncertainty also clouds growth, since Phase 3 Zepzelca trials may not show benefit in first-line SCLC and early pipeline assets like JZP150 and JZP385 may deliver negative readouts, while Epidiolex could face generic competition after ODE expiration in 2027. Although Q1 revenue reached $1.069B and GAAP EPS was $4.43, the mix showed declining Xyrem sales and slowing commercial momentum in several products, underscoring concentration risk, competitive pressure, and the need for ongoing capital in a capital-intensive sector.
