The case for and against

Updated Oct 21, 2026

Bull case

Lineage Cell Therapeutics is well positioned because it is methodically leveraging its proprietary AlloSCOPE platform and manufacturing expertise to advance off-the-shelf cell therapies that can be produced consistently at scale, a key advantage for commercialization and margin potential. COR1’s rapid preclinical progress, along with its strategy to address the cost and supply limitations of cadaver-derived corneal endothelial cells, supports a differentiated value proposition in ophthalmology. The bullish case is further strengthened by OpRegen’s durable 36-month Phase 1/2a data, including +6.2 letters in mean BCVA and +9.0 letters in the high-coverage subgroup, plus the Roche and Genentech partnership that adds external validation.

Bear case

Lineage Cell Therapeutics is exposed to substantial fundamental risk because its valuation depends heavily on two clinical programs, with OpRegen contributing 91% and OPC1 9%, leaving the story highly concentrated and vulnerable to setbacks. The company is still tied to regenerative medicine, a field that has progressed more slowly than expected and has yet to deliver a clear pivotal or commercial win, so failed or inconclusive trials could quickly undermine confidence. In addition, the need to secure adequate funding, along with clinical, regulatory, partnership, commercial, legal, and intellectual property risks, creates a fragile outlook despite exposure to dry AMD, which represents 80-90% of the AMD market.
