The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Strategy is viewed positively because its capital structure is increasingly being managed to enhance bitcoin-per-share exposure while reducing financing risk, with $1bn preferred repurchase authorization and $1bn common buybacks signaling a shift from issuance to active capital optimization. The Digital Credit Capital Framework strengthens confidence through a minimum 12-month USD coverage policy, a revised 12% STRC dividend, and a toolkit of reserve management, BTC monetization, and repurchases that should support preferreds moving back toward par and help MSTR trade above NAV. Strategically, the company remains a leveraged bitcoin vehicle with BTC Yield at healthy levels, and the ability to deploy capital into accretive repurchases and future BTC accumulation could improve mNAV and shareholder value as market conditions recover.

Bear case

Strategy is vulnerable because a significant portion of its enterprise value is tied to bitcoin, making the stock highly exposed to a material decline in BTC and to the risk that its embedded premium compresses even if bitcoin is stable. The business also faces a competitive enterprise BI market, while its single-platform analytics model and recent cloud product launches create execution risk if adoption lags or privacy-driven restrictions dampen demand, threatening revenue and free cash flow. Pressure intensified when the company used its USD reserve at the end of May to repurchase 2029 convertible debt, cutting reserve coverage for dividends and interest to less than a year from close to 2-years, which raises capital structure and funding concerns.
