The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Norwegian Cruise Line is attractive because its turnaround is anchored by ample FCF and liquidity, which should support balance-sheet deleveraging over the next couple of years even as management resets strategy and guidance. Its core cruise demand appears resilient and onboard trends remain healthy, while a new CEO, refreshed senior leadership, and a new head of marketing create a clearer path for better booking trends, stronger yields, and improved pricing once the brand is redefined. Longer term, a modern fleet, four oldest ships removed, Great Tides Waterpark opening in Q3, and 16 ships on order through 2037 adding 43,000 berths should help drive capacity-led growth and margin expansion.

Bear case

Norwegian Cruise Line is viewed negatively because its growth plan is colliding with weak near-term demand, execution missteps, and a booking position that remains below the 60% to 65% target, while management also expects about 240 bps of occupancy contraction in 3Q26 and 120 bps for FY26. Advanced ticket sales of $3.72 billion as of June 30, 2026 were down 2% sequentially and 5% year over year, and the company faces pressure from Middle East geopolitical events, uncertain Europe and Caribbean trends, and rising fuel costs that could pull 3Q26 EPS toward about $0.80. Although shares trade below 8.5x 2028 EPS, the valuation discount reflects repeated operational resets, a heavy debt burden, and capacity growth that outpaces peers through 16 ships on order and 43,000 incremental berths.
