The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

NervGen Pharma is attractive because its lead asset NVG-291 has shown compelling proof-of-concept in subacute and chronic cervical motor incomplete SCI, including 2.6x greater mean GRASSP Total Score improvement versus placebo, 3.7x greater grasping gains, durable post-treatment functional recovery, and no treatment-related serious adverse events. The company also appears financially and operationally de-risked after completing a $60M underwritten offering of 24M shares plus 24M warrants, which should fund the RESTORE Phase 3 program and may support future commercial buildout if exercised. Fundamentally, the investment case is strengthened by a rigorous ~150-patient registrational design, FDA alignment that one positive study may be sufficient, long-dated IP through at least 2037 for NVG-291 and beyond 2040 for NVG-300, and a large unmet SCI market with projected $150–300K per-course pricing and $2–4 billion peak annual U.S. revenue potential.

Bear case

NervGen Pharma is a high-risk, pre-revenue biopharmaceutical company whose value depends almost entirely on NVG-291, making the thesis vulnerable to any delay in the RESTORE Phase 3 trial, regulatory setback, or negative efficacy readout. The company is not yet profitable and is expected to post diluted net losses of CAN$0.49 per share in 2026 and CAN$0.67 in 2027, while $22.1 million in cash and securities at end-2025 is only expected to fund operations into 2027, implying a meaningful need for additional financing. Even if approval is achieved, commercialization risks remain elevated because sales uptake could be slow, larger competitors may be difficult to displace, and long-term dilution could pressure shareholders.
