The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Nomad Foods is supported by a leading branded frozen-food portfolio across Western Europe, with strong positions in Birds Eye, Findus, and Iglo, and exposure to health-oriented categories such as fish, vegetables, proteins, and prepared meals. Despite recent volume pressure, management is attacking the decline with category expansion, channel diversification, and a leaner marketing structure, while 2Q26 revenue, adjusted EBITDA, and EPS all came in slightly ahead of expectations and gross margin reached 28.7%. The outlook is further strengthened by €180MM-€200MM of COGS productivity savings expected over 2027-2029, disciplined pricing to offset 7% inflation next year, and a greater emphasis on free cash flow, capital returns, and margin recovery.

Bear case

Nomad Foods is facing a negative outlook because sales are weakening, with total revenue declines of 2.2%, 3.2%, and 3.4% tied mainly to volume drops of 3.8%, 4.7%, and 2.6%, showing that recent pricing actions have not offset demand pressure. Operating leverage is also deteriorating, as higher incentive compensation and advertising/promotional spending, plus inflation—especially in fish—have pushed operating margin down to 12.6% to 12.9% and reduced adjusted EBITDA to about €477.7MM to €489.1MM. Although management is pursuing efficiencies, the combination of sustained volume declines, retailer resistance to further price increases, and the stock’s prior earnings-driven rerating suggests the business needs clear execution and stronger organic growth before sentiment can improve.
