The case for and against

Updated Oct 15, 2026

Bull case

Neostellar Capital is attractive because its shares trade at a steep discount to mark-to-market NAV even after accounting for recent portfolio marks, with the stock still implying a roughly 45%-47% discount when OpenAI is valued at the August 2026 level and only about a 5% premium to NAV even if AI holdings were marked to zero. The company also has several value-creating catalysts and monetization wins, including a profitable CoreWeave sale, an attractively priced TensorWave Series B at 16x 2025 exit run-rate versus Nebius at 67x, and a potential Oura IPO that could lift WHOOP’s private valuation. Despite sequential NAV/share declines to $13.25-$13.75 for 2Q26 and $12.25-$12.75 for 3Q26, the portfolio’s concentration in high-quality venture-backed AI assets and proven realization ability support the positive outlook.

Bear case

Neostellar Capital is challenged by macroeconomic weakness that undermines business confidence and depresses the fair value of its private, venture-backed portfolio, making NAV particularly vulnerable to market repricing. Its publicly traded shares already appear tied to a modest premium or near-par relationship with NAV/share, leaving limited cushion if the discount to NAV widens further amid poor investment decisions or valuation errors. Higher interest rates can further compress growth-company valuations and strain portfolio companies’ ability to raise sufficient liquidity to fund operations, increasing the risk of write-downs and weaker fundamentals.
