The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Intellia Therapeutics is viewed favorably because its lead HAE program, lonvo-z, has already shown compelling clinical differentiation, with an 87% reduction in mean monthly attacks versus placebo and 62% of patients remaining attack free over the six-month evaluation period. The FDA’s acceptance of the BLA with Priority Review, a March 10, 2027 PDUFA date, and no planned AdCom materially de-risk the path to approval, shifting attention from efficacy to final benefit-risk, CMC, and inspection issues. A potential approval would not only create the first U.S. regulatory precedent for systemic in vivo CRISPR, but also support the company’s broader platform across high-unmet-need areas like ATTR amyloidosis, sickle cell disease, and immuno-oncology, bolstered by collaborations with Regeneron and Novartis.

Bear case

Intellia Therapeutics is exposed to significant fundamental risk because its CRISPR/Cas9 platform remains immature, with no CRISPR-based genome-editing therapeutics yet reaching clinical development and no approved product using genome editing. The company also depends on uncertain third-party patent rights and faces meaningful clinical execution risk, where setbacks in any program could undermine confidence in both the specific asset and the broader technology. Financially, it is likely to require additional equity financing to complete development of its drug candidates, increasing dilution risk, while changes in its Novartis and Regeneron collaborations could materially weaken shareholder value.
