The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Oxford Industries is positioned to benefit from a stabilizing Tommy Bahama, which has returned to sales growth over the past two quarters and is showing a positive inflection in Florida, its key market. The company also has meaningful earnings leverage ahead as gross margin is expected to expand 100+ bps in 2026 and 50+ bps in 2027, supported by stronger DTC mix, higher IMUs, and a more disciplined promotional stance, while 1Q delivered $391mm of revenue, a 63.4% gross margin, and $1.39 of adjusted EPS. In addition, management’s enterprise review, seven ERP systems consolidation opportunity, new Lyons, GA distribution center, and FCF of $100-$110M versus a roughly $40M dividend suggest the balance sheet and capital allocation profile can support further improvement.

Bear case

Oxford Industries is facing a fundamentally weak setup because Lilly Pulitzer’s underperformance is largely self-inflicted, with merchandising missteps, reduced opening-price-point assortment, and weaker new-customer acquisition driving about a ~$1.00 EPS drag this year. The company also cut FY26 outlook materially, now guiding revenue to $1.43b-$1.470b and adj. EPS to $1.60-$2.00, while gross margin expansion slowed to 50 bps excluding tariff refunds amid a tougher promotional and tariff environment. Johnny Was adds another layer of pressure, losing $10M in op profit in ’25 and still dependent on a slower wholesale recovery, leaving the overall earnings rebound uncertain despite Tommy Bahama’s relative resilience.
