The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Progyny is supported by a differentiated fertility and family-building platform that combines Smart Cycles, a curated clinician network, integrated pharmacy access, and high-touch care advocacy, which management and analysts say is difficult to replicate. Its fundamentals are reinforced by best-in-class retention above 99%, win rates above 50% in competitive deals, approximately 7 million covered lives served out of roughly 105 million self-insured lives, and 1Q26 results that beat consensus on revenue and EBITDA while active clients rose to 595 and average membership reached 7.2 million. The outlook is further strengthened by expanding addressable markets through Progyny Select and payer partnerships, improving gross margin to 27.2%, and 2026 guidance increases to $1.365 billion to $1.405 billion of revenue and $232 million to $244 million of EBITDA.

Bear case

Progyny is facing a skeptical outlook because its growth depends heavily on adding covered lives, yet management’s goal of about 1 million new covered lives annually must overcome attrition, utilization pressure, and the risk that an economic downturn or employer cost-cutting slows benefit adoption. The business also remains exposed to demand volatility from reproductive-rights uncertainty, slower-than-expected new solution revenue, and competition from traditional carriers and startups, while the loss of Amazon underscored customer-concentration and renewal risk despite improved diversification. Although pipeline strength, renewals, and a $200M share repurchase support sentiment, rising stock-based compensation and the possibility that current revenue estimates are too aggressive limit confidence in durable fundamental upside.
