The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Pinterest is attractive because it is showing better-than-feared operating momentum, with Q1 revenue up about 18% year over year, adjusted EBITDA ahead of expectations, and global MAUs reaching a record 631 million while ARPU also beat estimates. The investment case is strengthened by improving monetization and product execution: Performance+ has reached about 30% of lower-funnel revenue, large advertisers are seeing ROAS gains of up to 11%, and AI upgrades to search, ranking, and recommendations are helping offset prior headwinds. In addition, management’s commitment to buybacks is reducing share count meaningfully, while international growth, retail diversification, and emerging tests like tvScientific suggest multiple paths to sustain growth and support margins.

Bear case

Pinterest is challenged by a mix of competitive, operational, and monetization risks that weaken the durability of its advertising-driven model. Despite more than 500 million monthly active users, the company remains heavily dependent on North American ad revenue, while management flagged macro pressure in Europe, less FX benefit in 2H26, and possible retooling in international markets. Investor concerns are compounded by U.S. MAU declines, stagnant conversion and ROAS, infrastructure cost inflation, and the possibility that R&D, partnerships, and native checkout fail to improve engagement, profitability, or advertiser ROI.
