The case for and against

Updated Oct 17, 2026

Bull case

Pennant Gr is supported by strong same-store momentum across its home health, hospice, and senior living businesses, with second quarter results beating Street expectations and management raising full-year 2026 guidance to revenue of $1,171.1MM-$1,190.1MM and adjusted EBITDA of $94.4MM-$98.0MM. Core operating trends are improving, including SS home health admissions up 9.7% YOY, SS Medicare home health admissions up 13.6% YOY, SS hospice ADC up 10.8% YOY to 4,089, and senior living occupancy rising 150 bps YOY to 81.6% with same-store RevPOR up 5.5% YOY to $5,413. The outlook is further strengthened by ahead-of-schedule integration of the former UNH/AMED assets, improving clinical quality metrics, and a more favorable reimbursement backdrop after four consecutive years of home health base rate cuts.

Bear case

Pennant Gr is exposed to meaningful downside because its home health and hospice businesses depend heavily on Medicare reimbursement, while the downside case assumes topline momentum plateaus and labor pressures compress margins. The analysis also highlights execution risk from a rapid expansion strategy, since unforeseen integration headwinds in transitioning assets could force management to halt incremental M&A and slow growth. In addition, senior housing may face occupancy pressure from supply headwinds, and FY27E EBITDAR is projected to land 5% below current estimates, supporting a weaker 8.0x to 10.7x valuation multiple.
