The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Ralliant is supported by a stronger-than-expected operating backdrop, with 1Q26 organic sales up 8.8%, adjusted EBITDA margin expanding 270 bps to 18.6%, and book-to-bill at 1.1x–1.2x, the highest since 2022, while defense backlog topped $1 billion and utility orders reached a record. Its bullish case rests on secular exposure to grid modernization, defense, and electrification, alongside a cyclical recovery in Test & Measurement where margins rose 700 bps to 11.9% and management expects HSD% growth to continue through FY27. Further upside is reinforced by the Enterprise Productivity Program, which lifts annualized cost savings to $50 million–$60 million by 2028, and by disciplined capital returns, including a $100 million ASR and a plan to return 50% of free cash flow to buybacks.

Bear case

Ralliant is facing a fundamentally challenged outlook because tariff disruption, macro uncertainty, and capex caution threaten the Industrial Manufacturing recovery and could delay automation across automotive, aerospace, logistics, medical, and other short-cycle markets. The company also absorbed a $1.4 billion non-cash goodwill impairment on EA Elektro-Automatik, implying severe prior overpayment and exposing how concentrated the acquired EV/battery exposure was, while also risking tighter scrutiny on future M&A and execution credibility. Although Sensors and Safety Systems grew sales 10.6% y/y to $324 million with 28.4% adjusted EBITDA margin, ongoing downcycling in Test & Measurement, margin pressure, and the need for $50 million to $60 million of cost savings by 2028 suggest earnings remain vulnerable.
