The case for and against

Updated Oct 18, 2026

Bull case

Sotera Health is positioned favorably because it is delivering consistent top-line beats across all three segments, with 2Q revenue of $321.4M, +8.0% cc, and 1Q revenue of $280.0M, +6.5% cc, while Sterigenics—the largest revenue driver—showed accelerating growth from pricing and volume/mix. Margin performance is also supporting the bullish view, as 2Q adjusted EBITDA margin reached 51.6% and adjusted EPS of $0.26 exceeded expectations, reinforcing management’s ability to convert demand strength into earnings growth. The outlook is further strengthened by higher 2026 guidance, led by revenue of +5.25-6.75% cc and adjusted EBITDA of +5.75-7.25% cc, plus continued litigation de-risking after the New Mexico case settlement and improving visibility in the remaining cases.

Bear case

Sotera Health is facing a less favorable valuation backdrop as peer group multiple compression in recent months has pushed the applied EV/EBITDA multiple down to 12x from 12.5x. The outlook also reflects a one-quarter roll-forward in the valuation framework against an NTM+1 EBITDA projection of $690M, implying limited upside from fundamentals alone. Despite its leading Sterigenics franchise and broad exposure to U.S. healthcare, pharmaceutical, and food safety demand, the company’s earnings multiple appears vulnerable to market de-rating.
