The case for and against

Updated Oct 14, 2026

Bull case

Soluna Holdings is viewed positively because its renewable-powered, behind-the-meter model gives it a structural edge in solving the AI industry’s biggest bottleneck: access to scalable power without years of grid delay, especially in ERCOT where it already has 266 MW of base load designation and a 6.3 GW development pipeline. The company is also transitioning from volatile Bitcoin mining toward higher-margin contracted hosting and AI/HPC infrastructure, with TTM revenue of about $33M, gross profit margins of 44.3%, and management-guided projects such as Kati 2 and Dorothy 3 that could add roughly $190M of annual revenue from a 100 MW lease. Confidence is further supported by the MetroBloks JV, the April 2026 Briscoe Wind Farm acquisition for $53M, and the view that a first AI contract could be transformational while materially improving revenue quality and long-term cash flow visibility.

Bear case

Soluna Holdings is burdened by a weak capital structure, recurring losses, and a dependence on dilutive equity and expensive construction debt to fund its HPC pivot, with debt projected to rise from $33M to $1B and interest expense from $9M in 2026E to $81M in 2028E. Its near-term business remains concentrated and fragile, as 1Q26 showed $9.4M of revenue, three customers drove ~74% of hosting revenue, and Bitcoin-related demand still meaningfully influences growth despite the move toward hosting and AI infrastructure. The stock also faces material execution and regulatory risk because HPC is pre-revenue, ERCOT’s approval for Kati is only conditional, opposition to projects is accelerating, and Nasdaq delisting risk could further pressure liquidity and financing access.
